NEWPORT BEACH, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Caller ID Reputation's software helps legitimate business combat the growing threat of caller ID spoofing. It is becoming more common for legitimate businesses, organizations and even government phone numbers to be stolen by scammers.
In May, after her father passed, a woman received calls from the Social Security offices that were marked as “scam likely.” Recently, Amazon Flex Drivers started noticing their calls, through the Amazon platform, showing as “scam likely.”
- Scammers and spammers are compromising phone numbers more often.
- Consumers and carriers are becoming increasingly aggressive with callers.
- Call authentication could block even more legitimate calls from connecting.
How did this happen?
Once numbers are compromised and spoofed, consumers begin to flag them on call blocking apps. Flag data is eventually crowd sourced by carriers, then used to block callers or relabel their caller ID as telemarketer, spam call and scam likely.
Healthcare has seen an increase in caller ID spoofing related incidents. Non-profit organization, Southcoast Health, issued a public service announcement to warn patients about “a steep rise in fraudulent robocalls targeting patients on a local, regional and national scale.” Hospitals have also started spreading awareness about “masking” and “phone spoofing” to their patients.
All this confusion has created the need for call authentication. By 2020 government regulations will be in place to limit robocalls, however, the effort to eliminate robocalls will probably cause more legitimate calls to be blocked at first.
Call blocking is a fragmented frontier. Caller ID Reputation brings it all together, displaying flags across all major call blocking apps and carriers. We strive to provide awareness to businesses about how their reputation is impacted by erroneous flags and stolen phone numbers.
