Chime is a financial technology company providing mobile banking services on Android and iOS phones.
Chime offers no fee Visa debit card, no fee for savings accounts and no fees for overdrafts up to $200. The company also provides access to direct deposit paychecks up to two days early and offers a secured Visa credit card with no deposit required.
Banking services are provided by The Bancorp Bank or Stride Bank, N.A. Both are members of FDIC.
In August 2021, Chime raised $750 million in a funding round valuing it at $25 billion according to Wall Street Journal. The round was led by Sequoia Capital Global Equities with other investors including SoftBank Vision Fund 2, General Atlantic, Tiger Global Management LLC and Dragoneer Investment Group LLC.
Chime is expected to go public in 2022.
The company was founded in 2013 by CEO Chris Britt and CTO Ryan King. The company was named to Chime to provide a calming sound to users.
