White House Senior Adviser Departs to Lead Alliance for Digital Innovation

WASHINGTON--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Matthew Cornelius, senior technology and cybersecurity adviser for The White House Office of Management and Budget (OMB), has departed his post to serve as the executive director of the Alliance for Digital Innovation (ADI).

ADI is a Washington-based nonprofit coalition of cloud-forward commercial innovators dedicated to bringing technology and innovation into the federal government. Cornelius brings deep operational and policy expertise to ADI, having most recently overseen the appropriation and deployment of federal technology funds at OMB, as well as extensive domain expertise in IT modernization initiatives gained during posts at the U.S. Department of the Treasury and the General Services Administration (GSA), where he served as senior adviser for the Office of the Administrator and chief of staff for the Office of Information, Integrity and Access.

“I have had the great privilege of partnering with federal agencies to shape the way technological innovation can drive how our government serves and protects Americans,” Cornelius said. “In doing so, I have also experienced the setbacks, complications and impediments of outdated, legacy IT systems standing as an obstacle to a true 21st century digital government. As I begin this new chapter with ADI, I look forward to continuing my work alongside our innovative members and directors, working toward a more nimble, secure and forward-thinking digital government.”

Through advocacy and educational efforts in support of federal agencies, ADI works to drive commercial innovation into government and showcase how commercial technologies enable the U.S. government to better serve the country.

“Technological investments from commercial innovators have always supported the evolution and progress of government agencies, from the space race to every arms race in history,” ADI Chairman John Wood said. “Today, it is the data race that will define 21st century leadership, and we’re grateful to have Matt on our team working to move the U.S. government forward.”

Cornelius succeeds Richard Beutel, CEO of Cyrrus Analytics, who remains a key member of the ADI team as senior policy advisor after stepping down in light of recent health concerns. Cornelius will be based at the Washington, D.C., office of Kellen, a global, full-service management company providing ADI support for financial governance, government relations, membership development, public engagement and strategic advisory services.
