2017 was an incredible year for the stock market and Silicon Valley technology companies led the way.
The Dow Jones Industrial Average scored an amazing 25.1% gain over the past year and the S&P 500 was up 19.8%.
Almost every major technology company in the region beat those indexes with Roku leading the list of top performers. The maker of streaming media players had the best stock return in 2017 among Silicon Valley companies and it only went public in September. If you were able to get shares in Roku at its IPO price of $14, you would have enjoyed a near 300% gain at the end of the year.
Other top performers include Square with a 154.3% gain and Align Technology was up 131.1%. Apple had a strong year with a 46.1% return and remains the most valuable company in the world with a stock market capitalization of nearly $870 billion.
