CNET Launches BNET

POSTED March 3, 2007

SAN FRANCISCO -- CNET Networks is expanding beyond technology news. The company has relaunched BNET (www.bnet.com), a Web site designed to help business managers succeed at work. BNET combines trusted information with community features, offering managers solutions and tools to solve day-to-day business challenges - from building and managing a team to setting achievable goals and objectives - and perform with excellence in today's demanding professional environments.

There are 49 million business managers in the U.S. and BNET is looking to reach them. CNET Networks launched BNET as a beta experiment two years ago, and has leveraged the site since then to gather info on what today's business professionals need to enhance their performance. As part of this process, the BNET team partnered with Nielsen//NetRatings to conduct a market study that would identify today's top management issues and the availability of related resources and information online.

According to the study, respondents identified more than 30 management needs for which there is a lack of information available online. Categories such as interpersonal skills, time management, upward management as well as setting goals and objectives represented the largest unmet needs, followed by content addressing business policies and procedures and employee development.

"Today's business media landscape is replete with business news, profiles, features, and stock information, but we've found through our research that there is no credible central resource that focuses solely on providing managers the in-depth tools they need to excel at work," said Greg Mason, senior vice president of CNET Networks Business. "The BNET beta process has enabled us to pinpoint managers' most pressing business needs and build a single site where they can easily find a wealth of information that addresses these needs. BNET lets professionals spend their valuable time learning and taking action, versus searching for content they can trust."

BNET features include:
- BNET Original Content: Exclusive editorial content in three key areas - management, strategy, and work life - includes feature stories, how-to guides, best-practices, and business basics that cover the most important business topics and offer easy to use, action-oriented advice
- Business Library: A library of white papers, case studies, Web casts and other interactive content that represent the best in classic and current business thinking, conveniently organized by topic
- BNET Blogs: Original blogs provide readers with information and solutions to problems faced each and every day on the job
- Web 2.0 Features: RSS alerts, link-saving and sharing, community features, content voting, and personalization features let users tailor BNET to meet their individual needs
