AT&T Debuts Mobile TV in San FranciscoPOSTED June 23, 2009 DALLAS -- AT&T announced today the expanded availability of AT&T Mobile TV to roughly 20 new markets -- including San Francisco -- around the country, giving more TV lovers on-the-go access to high-quality TV programming from top news and entertainment brands-live and in color on their mobile phones. Mobile TV is only available through specific phones and does not include the iPhone, which AT&T is the exclusive carrier. The expansion to new markets was enabled by the June 12 transition to digital TV. AT&T Mobile TV runs on a multicast network maintained by FLO TV Incorporated, a Qualcomm company. The shift to DTV released spectrum that is enabling FLO TV to expand its network coverage nationwide. New markets in the AT&T Mobile TV footprint include Boston, Charlotte, Cleveland, Houston, Miami, Milwaukee, Sacramento and San Francisco, in addition to cities in California, Connecticut, Florida, New Jersey, North Carolina and the Northeast. The expansion brings the service to a total of more than 80 markets. A comprehensive coverage map is available at www.att.com/mobiletv. AT&T Mobile TV subscribers have access to full-length simulcast and time-shifted programming from 12 leading brands: CBS Mobile, CNBC, Comedy Central, ESPN Mobile TV, FOX Mobile, FOX News, MSNBC, MTV, NBC 2Go and Nickelodeon, as well as content exclusive to AT&T customers from CNN Mobile and the movie channel Sony Crackle (formerly Sony PIX). Subscribers also have periodic access to "bonus" channels featuring specialized content like live sporting events and concerts. For example, four channels were added to AT&T Mobile TV to bring customers exclusive live coverage of all 63 games from the first round through the championship game in the 2009 NCAA® Division I Men's Basketball Championship. These specialized channels have been among the most popular. During the NCAA tournament, which aired for 11 days between March 19 and April 6, the four channels combined ranked as the No. 2 most watched channels on AT&T Mobile TV for the 11-day period and grabbed more than 19 percent of the viewing share across all channels, according to FLO TV's market research. AT&T Mobile TV is compatible on four feature-rich handsets optimized for television viewing: the LG Invision, LG Vu, Samsung Access and Samsung Eternity. Unlimited access to AT&T Mobile TV is available for $15 per month. Because AT&T Mobile TV runs on a separate, dedicated network, users do not incur additional voice or data charges. Customers can also bundle AT&T Mobile TV with an unlimited data plan for $30 per month. © Copyright SVDaily.com |
